Reading isn’t just available in our library at school. Reading materials can be found online as well. Please follow these links to explore e-books, audio books, and Videos of people reading to you.
E-books
Using a mobile device such as a tablet or cellphone gives you access to a wider range of titles.

Sign into our Destiny Library database for Mary Jane Shannon using your Microsoft Office Signin (same as FreshGrade). Click on ‘catalog’ and then ‘Destiny Discover.’ Once in Destiny Discover scroll down to ‘E-Books’ and ‘See All.’ You can read many of the books we have in our library online as well.
If you have a public library card then you can download the Overdrive or Libby app onto your electronic device to borrow and read e-books from the library. Their selection will be different than Destiny Discover. The best thing - no late fees! Books are automatically returned. If you don’t have a library card yet your parents can contact them through the Surrey library webpage https://www.surreylibraries.ca/sign-library-card-home-0 to apply.

TeenBookCloud is a database of e-books for Grades 7-12 in English, Spanish and French. Includes graphic novels, hi/lo (high interest quick reads), classic literature, national geographic videos, and enhanced ebooks (read alouds).

In order to access Epic, your teacher must send you an invite. Epic has a huge range of ebooks available - it is like Netflix for books! Your teacher may assign you titles to read using Epic.
BookFlix is a curated database that pairs fiction and non-fiction books, and a great tool for reading aloud with your child. The resource reinforces reading skills while introducing children to a world of knowledge and exploration.

Audio books
Audio books do not have a visual element and are a great thing to play in the background while you are doing something else. Overdrive/Libby from the public library and Destiny Discover (see above) both have audiobook options.
Read aloud books
There are many pages online where you can watch and listen to someone else read books to you online. Yes YouTube is fun but there are many inappropriate and inaccurate videos available on there so these sources of video books are a better way of finding something to warp the and listen to. Many of these books are read by famous actors, actresses, astronauts or sports stars as well!
Simple readers for K to grade 2. Books can be read aloud in many different languages.
Storyline Online contains celebrated actors reading children’s books alongside the storybook illustrations.

Ryan and Craig read aloud a variety of books with humor and wit.
