welcome to mjs library!
open:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
visiting with class only
In the 2021/2022 school year, our library will be open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Currently the library is not open before or after school, or at break times but hopefully this will change shortly. Students will have an opportunity to visit the library once a week with their class - 50 minutes for primary grades, and 15 minutes for intermediate grades.
Kindergarten and grade 1 are allowed 1 book a week (to start), grades 2-3 will be allowed 2 books a week (to start), and grades 4 and up will be allowed 3 books. All books must be returned the following week in order to check out new books on their next visit.
Visit our library online catalog (Destiny) to find which books we have in stock or place a book on hold.
Students may choose any books they would like. If a book is too difficult, it would make a great read aloud by an older member of their household. Students are taught how to choose books 'right for them' to help them choose books they can read independently.
The only section that is restricted is the Young Adult section which is open to grade 6 and 7 students, unless a parent permission form has been completed. Come see Ms. McArthur for permission form.

Our library is organized into three sections - Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Everybody picture books. Our Fiction section is half way to being organized by genre. Below are the fiction genres at our school and the labels you will find on their spines (Fantasy and Sci Fi books are shelved together). Look for these labels to help you find these genres on our shelves.
Coming soon! Videos explaining each genre
Ms. Hodgson's gr 3/4 class in 2020/2021 studied the genres in detail created the posters above, as well as video advertisements explaining each genre.
